Dental Implants Procedures New York, NY
In the past, when a patient lost a tooth due to injury, tooth decay, or advanced periodontal disease, they had very limited options they could pursue to restore it. Now, we can provide dental implants to these patients, allowing them to attain a permanent and attractive restoration for their tooth loss.
Getting a dental implant has many benefits and it is both a safe and routine outpatient procedure, and the entire procedure itself can be completed in our office in as little as an hour and a half, through completion of the procedure to get the final restoration may take a few months to complete. When we here at Manhattan Maxillofacial Surgery Group meet a patient who has lost a tooth, we are pleased to offer them dental implants so that they may smile with confidence once more.
How are Dental Implants Surgically Placed?
Dental implant solutions are growing in popularity, with over a half a million people electing to get them done every year. They have a remarkable 98 percent success rate if they are taken care of properly, and unlike bridges or partials, they can improve your oral health by preventing bone loss in the jaw. They also restore your bite force to full function, do not slip or click when you talk, and allow you to continue to eat your favorite foods without hesitation.
Placing a dental implant is straightforward and can typically be performed with a combination of local anesthesia and intravenous (IV) anesthesia. This prevents the patient from experiencing any discomfort throughout the procedure and helps keep them calm and relaxed during it. To place the titanium screw, we will first begin by making an incision in the gum above the implant site. This will expose the jawbone to us so we can place the screw in it. We will then carefully drill the titanium screw into the jawbone directly, then suture the site shut to allow it to heal.
Do Everything You Can to Improve Your Recovery
Please carefully adhere to all of our aftercare advice following your procedure to help ensure the best outcome for you and your implant. If you smoke, please stop immediately; tobacco products are linked to implant failure as well as other health complications.
Avoid excessively hot or cold foods, and be extremely cautious when practicing oral hygiene to avoid irritating the surgical site. Do not brush the area in the 48 hours following your procedure. You can place gauze over the surgical site to help with bleeding, and you may use a cold compress to help combat the swelling. If you notice any signs of an infection, such as foul discharge from the surgical site or running a fever, please notify us immediately.
The surgical site will heal for up to six months or longer, depending on the unique needs of the patient. Once it heals, we will then be able to place the abutment and the restoration on the implant. From initial surgery to the final placement of the crown, the entire procedure can be completed in just a few months, giving you back your beautiful smile.
