Problems That Stem from Not Treating a TMD
Temporomandibular Disorder, or TMD, causes a host of problems that range from pain in the jaw to chronic migraines. While many people can get rid of their TMD by using home remedies and therapy, some, more serious cases can cause problems if the condition is not treated.

TMD Symptoms

Symptoms of TMD, also known as TMJ vary and can be mild to severe. Many people suffer from this condition without knowing it, which makes it hard to diagnose.
Here are some symptoms that can indicate you suffer from TMD:
•  Injury or trauma to the jaw,
•  Bruxism, or the clenching and grinding of the teeth at night or during the day,
•  Arthritis,
•  Jaw misalignment,
•  Bite disorders.

What Happens if TMD is Not Treated?

Living with pain in the jaw muscles is not fun and can prevent you from eating, talking or opening your mouth normally. The most important reason to treat TMD is that it can improve your quality of life.
TMD is not a life-threatening condition, but if left untreated, it can affect other areas of your body negatively. Some of the most common complaints from people who suffer from TMD are:
•  A clicking sensation when opening the mouth to eat or yawn,
•  Severe headaches,
•  Painful toothaches,
•  Shoulder and neck pain,
•  Ringing in the ears or earaches.

All these symptoms can prevent you from enjoying daily activities and affect your productivity and concentration at work or school. These are the reasons why, if you have any of the symptoms mentioned, you should give us a call. Our dentist will examine you with different techniques to see how your jaw aligns or if it pops when you open and close your mouth.
Why live with pain when we can help you fix the problem? In many cases, the symptoms of TMD are managed with something as simple as a mouthguard. There are other solutions we can suggest to treat your TMD, call us today!
