Dental Implant Benefits

There are no other dental restorations that offer the strength, endurance and stability of the dental implant. The important function of a dental implant is in the implant itself, though you will not see the implant, its presence is going to make a significant impact. Though many dentists may tell you that they can place an implant, the rate of success is dependant on having it done right. Trusting an Oral Surgeon, such as Dr. Del Valle or Dr. Shahgoli to surgically place your implant can make a difference. Our team at Manhattan Maxillofacial Surgery Group will evaluate your needs and design a treatment plan that is right for you.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a titanium post that we surgically implant into your jaw bone. It will serve as a new root system for a tooth that is lost. We use titanium because of its unique abilities of being biocompatible meaning that your body will not reject it, and in fact it will heal around it, attaching living tissue and bone around it, fusing it in place. Once healed, we can then place a prosthetic device over the implant, for a permanent restoration that will look, feel, and function like your natural tooth.

Implant Benefits

The benefits of dental implants are only outweighed by your natural teeth. Benefits include:

•  Independent: Implants do not rely on neighboring teeth for support as bridges and dentures do.
•  Stable: Implants are not held in with clasps, suction or cement, they are placed directly into your jawbone, making them strong and stable.
•  Permanent: Most patients will never have to remove or replace their implant device. If the patient is able to heal normally, their body should fuse with the implant, making it part of their jawbone, and permanent.
•  Stop Bone Deterioration: Your bone requires the motion and stimulation from your tooth root to stay strong. When a tooth is lost, the bone will respond immediately with a decrease in size. Implants provide the stimulation that your bone needs to stay strong.
•  Improved Speech: Many patients find that their speech has been affected from missing teeth, we can help improve your ability to speak with implants.
•  Improved Chewing: When teeth are missing, patients often avoid the foods they love, or find that they chew on the other side, making for imbalanced chewing. Implants can improve your function and let you resume eating the foods you love.
•  Improved Bite: Missing teeth can cause teeth shifting, and moving out of place causing bite issues and jaw pain including those associated with TMJ dysfunction. Implants can prevent the shifting of your teeth, keeping your bite healthy.
•  Aesthetics: Missing teeth can be aesthetically unappealing. We can restore your naturally beautiful look, increasing your self confidence.
